The typical hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The Accountant I position works daily in the office at the Saint Paul Police Department, located at 367 Grove Street, Saint Paul, MN 55101. This role combines technical accounting knowledge with administrative responsibilities to ensure the accurate and efficient handling of financial processes within the Saint Paul Police Department.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities: Maintain and update accurate records for all financial transactions within the organization, including accounts payable and receivable, and general ledger entries. Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation of accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and corrected. Prepare regular financial reports, including outside agencies, special events and other SPPD accounts. Present data to senior management, highlighting any significant financial issues or trends that require attention. Ensure all financial transactions and reports are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. Manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and clients, including overseeing payments, invoicing, and resolving billing discrepancies in a timely manner. Review and coordinate Police contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations. Draft City Council resolutions as required by the Police Department and maintain an organized tracking system for these documents to ensure accuracy and accessibility. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, public administration or a closely related field and 16 quarter credits or equivalent semester credits in accounting courses. (No substitution for education.)
